Artist Statement
私の作品には、「逃避」「心のシェルター」「救済」というテーマが根底にある。
それは決して現実から目を背けるという意味ではなく、
生き抜くために選ばれる、静かな戦略のようなものだ。
写真を撮る理由は、長いあいだ自分でもわからなかった。
けれど、作品を作り続けるうちに気づいたのは、
私が形にしているのは、祈り、夢の断片、心に沈殿した感情たち——
言葉にならなかった感覚の集積だったということ。
「cube」では、ガラスの箱を一時避難所と見立て、
傷ついた存在が身を寄せられる場所として描いている。
「白日夢」では、悲しい物語や過酷な現実を、空想の中で書き換えることで、
別の結末を手渡すような祈りのかたちを試みている。
私の作品に登場する人物の多くは、顔を見せていない。
それは特定の誰かを表現するのではなく、
象徴的な存在として、見る人の感情や記憶を重ねられるようにしているためだ。
「個を消す」ことで生まれる余白に、鑑賞者自身の物語が入り込む。
写真を撮ることは、私にとって自己表現であると同時に、
自身と誰かをそっと救うための行為でもある。
逃げることは悪いことではない。
その選択をした人々を静かに肯定し、写真を通して小さな救いを届けたい。
それが私が作品を作り続ける理由なのだと思う。
At the heart of my work are themes of escapism, emotional shelter, and salvation.
Yet, these themes don’t signify turning away from reality; rather, they represent a quiet strategy chosen as a means to survive.
For a long time, I didn’t fully understand why I was drawn to photography.
But as I continued creating, I realized that my photographs embodied prayers, fragments of dreams, and deeply buried emotions—
an accumulation of sensations that could never be fully expressed in words.
In the series “cube,” a glass box symbolizes a temporary emotional shelter,
offering a protected space for wounded souls.
In “Hakujitsu-mu (Daydream),” I rewrite painful realities and tragic stories into imaginary scenarios,
attempting to gently hand over alternative endings as a form of prayer.
The figures in my photographs rarely reveal their faces.
They do not represent specific individuals; instead, they’re depicted as symbolic beings,
allowing viewers to overlay their own memories and feelings.
By obscuring individual identities, I leave space for the audience’s personal narratives to fill in the gaps.
For me, photography is not merely a method of documenting reality.
It is both a personal act of expression and a quiet form of healing for myself and others.
Escaping is not something to be condemned.
Through my photographs, I wish to gently affirm the choices of those who have chosen to escape
and offer a small measure of salvation.
That, I believe, is why I continue to create.
